A Focus on Behavioral Conditioning

-
Regulated behavior is the foundation of a pleasant and safe companion
-
We work in a variety of environments so your dog can succeed wherever you choose to bring him - not just in a single space where he's learned to go into 'training mode'
-
We blend the best of many training techniques, including positive reinforcement and e-collar conditioning. We can also use 'positive-only' or 'force free' methods
-
Recall and other obedience commands are added after the dog learns to relax in stimulating environments
Humane E-Collar Conditioning
Get the security and behavioral control of an e-collar without the guesswork. We can properly and safely introduce your dog to e-collar work, and then teach you how to use this powerful tool in an effective and completely safe way.
How We Use E-Collars

-
The e-collar is a communication device, never used as punishment.
-
Vibrate, tone, and e-stim are mildly stressful signals that are only used once the dog understands (1) what they mean and (2) how to make them stop.
-
If the dog is intensely distracted, e-collar stimulation can get their attention when voices and other sounds cannot. It's a safety feature!

-
We always use collars on the mildest effective setting.
-
Often, timid and fearful dogs gain confidence once e-collar training is completed: they understand what is expected of them and have learned that they can always turn to their handler when uncertain.
Who We Are
Melissa has had canine family members throughout her life, training most of them with clicker-style positive reinforcement methods. Then, she adopted Jill, a traumatized rescue who simply wasn't interested in treats or toys, had a prey drive off the charts, and was fearful and reactive to almost everything. Her difficult journey through shaping Jill into a calm, confident and obedient companion inspired her to start Best Behaved Buddies and help others build the relationship they've always wanted with their pet.
